Summer vacation

The Burt's took their first full family summer vacation last weekend & had so much fun!
Destination: Minneapolis & mall of America.   We also visited Ames, Des Moines & Omaha Zoo.
Madison loved the rides at the mall and her first experience at Rainforest Cafe. Swimming at the hotel pool was a hit.. As well as just sleeping in a hotel room.
Zach and I enjoyed Zombie Burger once again..ate about 7000 calories.. My milkshake had a Twinkie in it. Yumm!
We also enjoyed walking around Iowa State University campus .
It was a full weekend .  We all were wiped by the end.

Iowa Summer days

Lots of fun to be had in Iowa during July.. Swimming, fishing, and harvesting our garden!
Tons of sweet corn is being consumed!
Our girls are growing up so fast.. Little Mallory is pushing up & rolling over; and Madison is starting to do all sort of things by herself! Just so cool to watch them grow.

Swimming Lessons, Lake, and Parade

Thursday we had more swimming lessons for Madison at the YMCA.. she is starting to put her face under the water, however it is still pretty forced and she doesn't like it much.  So crazy for a little girl as water crazy as she is.

Saturday was a great day for the Burt family.  We woke up and made a batch of pioneer woman waffles.. YUMM... then began doing chores around the house.  It was so hot and muggy outside, and Zach was supposed to mow the pond, but the tractor was having issues, so we decided to load up the kiddos and head to the lake.  Madison had an absolute blast.  We saw a few of her friends and she had fun showing daddy all around her favorite watering hole.

Saturday evening we went to a parade in Griswold IA.  Madison loved watching the fire engines, horses and marching band, but her favorite thing was all the candy thrown from the floats.  Mom.. liked that part too, I'll probably end up eating more of it then Madison will.

An Iowa Fourth of July

This has been a great first week in July.

Madi started swimming lessons at the YMCA and is doing great!
We have begun to harvest many summer veggies from our garden and are having a blast cooking them in various dishes!

We had an amazing 4th of July.. the weather here was fantastic Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

We went to the park, a friends party, saw fireworks, lit sparklers and just had a great time.  Zach managed to get some work done around the farm.. and he found a huge snake skin.. I hope I never meet the snake that occupied that skin... YIKES!

Saturday night there was a horrible rain storm here, we got 5 1/2" of rain overnight.  The creeks and pond were so full and flooding.  A building here in town just collapsed due to the amount of water on its roof.  Just crazy!
